Witham team’s road-trip rally raises £7,645 for charity

A team of intrepid travellers from Scott Parnell in Witham has raised £7,645 for charity after driving hundreds of miles across Europe in two old bangers.

Setting out from Reims in northern France in full fancy dress, the team’s trip was in aid of three charities – The Rainy Day Trust, Variety, and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Steve Parnell, who is managing director of the civils and drainage supplies specialist, along with his colleague Mel Windard, were tasked with purchasing two cars worth no more than £500 each, which were decorated in a theme of their choice – Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and the Jamaican bobsleigh team.

The four-day rally route, named The Pavestone Rally, included various challenges for each team to complete along the way and travelled through Stuttgart in Germany, Salzburg in Vienna and into Venice, before finishing at the beautiful setting of Lake Como in Italy.

Steve Parnell said:

“It was an absolute blast! We had a fantastic time and so many laughs throughout the four days. I’m sure some of the locals, who saw us in our costumes, were rather amused. We are delighted to have exceeded our original fundraising target of £7,500 and make a contribution to three important charities. Thank you to Pavestone for organising the event and to everyone who supported us.”
