AM1 Projects

Working on projects in the rail industry involves careful planning and the highest level of specialist expertise. Projects often need to be carried out speedily and in short notice. When railway electrification specialists AM1 Projects asked us to work with engineers on an assignment on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, we were only too happy to help.

The project

AM1 Projects was tasked with repairing a leaking oil fill cable on a stretch of track that runs through a Site of Special Scientific Interest near Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey.

There was a delay in awarding a contract for the work, so the project had to be planned and completed quickly.

The existing oil fill cable is more than 50 years old and was starting to degrade, resulting in pervious leaks, which risked delays and infrastructure issues. The complex project involved inserting a two-kilometre, 185mm aluminium cable in three phases in order to remove the risk of continued leaking and provide a reliable rail service for the residents of the Isle of Sheppey.

The solution

Our Rail Director Matt Davidson arranged ordering and prompt delivery of ArcoSystem, the Network Rail approved elevated trough system, which provides easy installation of cables, dramatically reducing installation costs and time. As sole supplier of this innovative, well-engineered product, we stock large quantities at our UK depots and we’re able to deliver nationwide. Along with supplying the products needed for the project promptly, we were able to provide technical support with on-site visits when required.

The verdict

“The project was delivered on target. We’ve worked with Scott Parnell before and we chose their products because I know we always receive excellent service. Arco is a fantastic product and the staff at SP are competent and helpful. There were continuous interface telephone meetings to help assist and get the project moving; and there was advice and alternative product information provided. SP would be the first supplier I’d discuss my next project with.”
