Carrying out projects in the high-risk rail industry requires an exceptional level of expertise and the ability to work swiftly and safely. So when specialist electrical company RJ Power asked for our help on a project at Generals Lane, Chelmsford, we were happy to step in.
The project
RJ Power Rail was tasked with de-commissioning a life-expired 25kV substation, as well as installing, testing and commissioning a new 25kV containerised air-insulated switchgear module. The work was to be carried out as part of the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) project.
Part of the project involved containing two 25kV overhead line feeder cables, which ran from the new 25kV containerised air-insulated switchgear module to the overhead line portal. The stretch of cable that needed containing was approximately 120 metres.
RJ Power wanted an effective product suitable for the large, heavy cables and, as is always the case in the fast-moving rail industry, RJ Power’s leaders wanted prompt, straightforward delivery and installation.
The solution
Our high-strength ArcoSystem product was chosen by RJ Power. The company had previously used it and found it easy to put together and install, as well as being very high quality.
We visited the site prior to the installation to talk about the system and explain why this particular method was the best fit for the project. We always feel it’s of real benefit to give a hands-on talk beforehand to the operatives who are going to be working with the product.
ArcoSystem is a simple product that saves time and money, but more importantly it reduces the length of time operatives are working in areas of heightened risk due to the speed of installation. Manufactured using corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced plastic, ArcoSystem is made in complete ready-to-install sections and supplied in lengths of six metres. Each section simply slides into position without the need for hundreds of individual nuts and bolts.
The verdict
“The results were fantastic. With another elevated trough system the job would have taken at least four days to complete. Using ArcoSystem, we completed it in a single day.”
